Blood Simple 1984

“But what I know about is Texas, and down here... you’re on your own…”

"Blood Simple" is an extremely enjoyable and good quality movie. It is the first film of Coen brothers and it is included in the category of Neo Noir films.

The film's title derives from the Dashiell Hammett novel Red Harvest (1929), in which the term "blood simple" describes the addled, fearful mind-set of people after prolonged immersion in violent situations.

Μany argue that the film is included in the category of horror films. But even if it has one of the most disturbing nightmare scenes I have ever watched, the film is far from this category.

Julian Marty is the owner (Dan Hedaya) of a seedy small-town Texas bar who discovers that one of his employees, Ray (John Getz), is having an affair with his wife Abby (Frances McDormand).

Everything is determined by the thirst for revenge and money. The demonic detective ( Michael Emmet Walsh ) who undertakes to deliver justice is the one who will provide the solution with a tragic twist that complicates characters and personalities. The parable of the resurrection of Lazarus and the idea of a shot man coming back to life gives the film an uncanny, almost supernatural atmosphere.

The Heat of the Night, 1967, crime movie

Norman Jewison’s crime thriller "The Heat of the Night" is an extremely well directed and acted film picked up five Oscars, including best actor for Rod Steiger. The scenes shot on location in Sparta, Illinois. In the small town of Sparta, Tibbs, a black detective, is arrested when a white man is found dead. Ths small town of Mississippi features a police department led by Chief Gillespie (Rod Steiger), a man slow to adapt to the changing times who is clearly outmatched by Tibbs. After Tibbs identity is revealed, the pair act out an odd couple partnership as they work to solve the crime, and in the process, they learn to form a mutual respect for each other.
