Out of the Past, 1947

Out of the Past is a classic film noir, directed by Jacques Tourneur. Starring Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer who make a great pair.  Both are sultry, sexy, hard to read, and gorgeous. Douglas is also great but Greer i.s just fascinating as a totally evil, beautiful woman.  This excellent film noir is regarded as one of the very best examples of the genre, if not the best by many noir fans...  The plot of the film will turn out to be quite complicated, but nevertheless, this also proves its charm.  A detective (Robert Mitchum) being hired by a mobster (Kirk Douglas) to track down a woman (Jane Greer) who double crossed him. When the detective finds the woman the two quickly fall for one another, which will lead to disaster in the future..  Which other film noir has similar structure, plot, charm and interest? Any idea ?   #noirlovers #noirlovers #noirfilms #movies Similar Posts  Key Largo , 1948 The Asphalt Jungle, 1950  In the Lon...

A Man Escaped, 1956

A Man Escaped is a 1956 French prison escape film directed by Robert Bresson who made one of the most suspenseful jailbreak films of all time!  The movie follows slowly and quietly the day of the prisoner who's to be executed and plans an escape. But Bresson’s film is not merely about process—it’s also a work of intense spirituality and humanity.  It is remarkable that most of what happens takes place in Fontaine's cell ( François Leterrier ) . There is no emphasis on the faces, on the uniforms of the Nazis, but there is an emphasis on the soul of the protagonist, on the voices of the prisoners, the film is a psychograph, an introspection into the spirit, into our desires and our strengths...  The character is based on a postwar memoir by André Devigny, who escaped from Montluc on the very day he was scheduled to die.  #jailbreak #jailbreakthemes #warmovies Similar Posts  Key Largo , 1948 The Asphalt Jungle, 1950  In the Lonely Place, 1950 ...

The long Goodbye, 1973

The Long Goodbye is a 1973 American neo-noir satirical mystery crime thriller film directed by Robert Altman and based on Raymond Chandler's 1953 novel.  This movie is probably the best film adaptation of Phillip Marlowe's adventures with an excellent performance by Elliott Gould who is a 1953 character in a 1973 world!  The hero, without his intention, gets involved in a case containing stolen money, underworld, police, suicides, disappearances of people and of course a murder..  Phillip Marlowe is the last manic smoker in Los Angeles, he has principles and values. For example he doesn't ask his friend why he wants to go to Mexico following the code of friendship between men.  Also we never see him rewarded for his work and he does not betray his friend even if he is forced to kill him in the end ( it is one of the most cruel and strange endings in the history of cinema ).  The hero behaves like a Knight and conveys Marlowe's sense of the world...
